Lift station repairs can be a very important.

Large pumping stations supply water to canals and they are an integral part of the many pumped-storage hydroelectric facilities. Lift station repair includes mining operations, water treatment plants, and many industrial applications. So important are lift stations to the area that Miami has a material supplier and many companies that specialize solely in lift station repair and service.
The majority of the population in Miami, FL gives little thought to lift stations when they are working, but it is of huge importance when they don’t. During times of natural disasters such as hurricanes and tornadoes, power outages lead to the loss of service to lift stations. That is one of the primary reasons why electric companies work so hard to get the power back on after such an occurrence.

Lift Station Pumps

Sewage pumps are almost always end-suction centrifugal pumps with open impellers and are specially designed with a large open passage so as to avoid clogging with debris or winding stringy debris onto the impeller. A four pole or six pole AC induction motor normally drives the pump. Rather than provide large open passages, some pumps, typically smaller sewage pumps, also macerate any solids within the sewage breaking them down into smaller parts which can more easily pass through the impeller.

The interior of a sewage pump station is a very dangerous place. Poisonous gases, such as methane and hydrogen sulfide, can accumulate in the wet well; an ill-equipped person entering the well would be overcome by fumes very quickly. Any entry into the wet well requires the correct confined space entry method for a hazardous environment. To minimize the need for entry, the facility is normally designed to allow pumps and other equipment to be removed from outside the wet well.

Pump Outs Unlimited will maintain your Lift Station!

The best way to avoid problems is to consistently keep an eye on your lift station. Get to
know it and what to expect from it. Once this is done, you can spot troubles before they blow
out of proportion.

The most important thing to do to care for your lift station is to read and record the hour
meters every day, at the same time. A calendar or log book works great for this. Record both the
total hours and daily total by subtracting the previous day’s total from the current day’s hours. If
everything is working correctly, the pumps will have pumped the same number of hours each
day because they alternate. Get to know how many hours to expect because this will indicate
problems down the road if the numbers are off. Hour meters in all of Aqua Engineering systems
turn off when the pump turns off for any reason. Because of this, if there is a difference in the
hours between the pumps, the pump with the least hours is likely to be the problem pump.

Lift station repairs

Sewage Lift Stations are, by their very nature, a harsh environment, and the equipment in this type of pumping station takes quite a beating with time. The general nature of sanitary raw sewage is both corrosive and abrasive to all the equipment contained within. Therefore, periodic repair and replacement of equipment is needed.

Drainage Structures

Storm Drainage Systems are composed of various types of structures that serve the purpose of storm water removal. These structures may include, but are not limited to, Catch Basins, French Drains, Injection Wells, Slab Covered Tranches, Retention Boxes and Soakage Pits. Each of these structures serves a purpose in a drainage system, and needs to be maintained in order to ensure proper functioning of the system as a whole. Neglect or improper maintenance will lead to flooding of the property and even to the reduction of the useful life of the drainage system.

Pump Outs Unlimited provides Storm Drain cleaning and maintenance services to both Commercial & Residential customers.

High-pressure water jetting with Pump Outs Unlimited

High-pressure water jetting is an efficient, economical, and environmentally safe way to clean drain and sewer pipes. Using state-of-the-art pumps and flexible hoses, ordinary water is propelled under varying amounts of pressure into the sewer line. A special nozzle mounted on the end of a heavy-duty hose has an array of forward and reverse water jets, which direct extremely powerful concentrated streams of water all the way to the pipe walls. Even the toughest blockages and buildup can’t stand up to water jet cutting, which thoroughly cleans pipes.

How does a grease trap work?

The first thing that you will notice when you install your grease trap is that it is not added directly to the drain of the sink or appliance that it is filtering. There is a flow control valve that keeps the water from reaching the grease trap too quickly before the trap itself. Another thing that may catch your eye is that there is no actual screen used to filter the FOG and debris out of the water.

The distance between the drains and the grease trap is specifically used to cool the water on its way to the trap. As the water cools, there are two principles at work; the first is that food debris sinks, and the second is that FOG floats. The flow control will keep the water from washing the debris from the trap during times of faster flow.

The grease trap is a well that keeps the floating oils at the top of the water from passing through by making the water fill the well. There is a wall that travels part of the way down the well on the input side so that the water needs to pass under it to exit through the drain. The FOG is blocked from traveling to the drain by the wall (because it floats), and the larger food debris sinks to the bottom of the trap and cannot travel up to the drain on the other side of the wall.

Pumping out Grease traps

Grease Traps

Restaurant and foodservice kitchens produce a lot of waste grease which is present in the drain lines from the various sinks dishwashers and cooking equipment such as ovens and commercial woks. If not removed the grease will congeal within the sewer and cause blockages and back-ups.

Method

When the outflow from the kitchen sink enters the grease trap, the solid food particles sink to the bottom while the lighter grease and oil floats to the top. The relatively grease-free water is then fed into the normal septic system. The food solids at the bottom and floating oil and grease must be periodically removed in a similar manner as with septic tank pumping. A traditional grease trap is not a food disposal unit. Unfinished food must be scraped into the garbage or food recycling bin. Milkshakes, gravy, sauces and food solids must be scraped off the dishes before they enter the sink or dishwasher. To try to maintain some degree of efficiency there has been a trend to specify larger and larger traps. Unfortunately, providing a large tank for the effluent to stand also means that food waste scraps also have time to settle to the bottom of the tank, further reducing the available volume and adding to the clean out problem. Also, rotting food contained within an interceptor breaks down producing toxic waste. This attacks mild steel and concrete materials resulting in "rot out" on the other hand Polyethylene has acid resisting properties. A bigger interceptor is not a better interceptor, in most cases having multiple interceptors In series will separate grease much better. Because it will have been in the trap for some time, grease collected in this way will have been contaminated and is unsuitable for further use. This kind of grease is referred to as brown grease.

What are lift stations used for?

Lift Stations
Sewage lift/pump stations are used for pumping wastewater or sewage from a lower to higher elevation, particularly where the elevation of the source is not sufficient for gravity flow and/or when the use of gravity conveyance will result in excessive excavation and higher construction costs.

If you are in need of any services for your lift station, give us a call at 305.620.7005.
We will send you a formal proposal for the service!
