Your storm drains are not draining...

Storm drains have grids to prevent large objects from falling into the sewer system. However, the bars are fairly widely spaced so that the flow of water is not blocked. Consequently, many objects fall through.

It is important to monitor and clean catch basins to prevent street flooding, property damage, and hazards to the traveling public. Do this at least once a year.

How to know when your lift station is clean?

What to look for when lift station is clean.Your lift station should be free of grease and debris on the bottom. Your equipment, floats and rails should be pressure washed and cleaned.  If you are available you should inspect the bottom to make sure all of the debris is removed from the floor. Ask for a picture of the clean lift station if you are not available to look at it.  Remember once the waste is removed there will be a waste manifest generated that you are required to keep for your records. Once the vacuum truck operator leaves your site with that waste he must dump it the waste somewhere.  You should receive another copy of the manifest with a stamp from the disposal site it was dumped at. If you do not receive that second copy the waste may have been dumped illegally and you, the generator, are responsible for that waste cradle to grave.

Drainsss

If your parking lot or underground garage is flooding don’t wait until more severe weather strikes possibly causing more extensive and costly damages. Catch basins should be serviced regularly to ensure sand and debris doesn’t enter the drainage system which can lead to costly repairs or needless line jetting. However, if your catch basins and sumps are not draining, we can inspect your parking lot drains and get your systems flowing safely.

Clean your Grease trap Frequently

Tips on Grease Trap/Interceptor Cleaning Frequency

It is important to clean your grease trap/interceptor regularly to prevent fats, oil and grease
from mixing with water that is discharged to the sewer. The minimum cleaning frequency required
grease traps/interceptors in food service facilities is 90 days. However, more frequent cleaning
intervals may be necessary to prevent your grease trap/interceptor from operating poorly or
improperly.

If you see floating grease or grease deposits in a cleanout “downstream” of your trap/interceptor,
you need to increase the cleaning frequency and initiate a more regular schedule.

Tips on routine maintenance

It is recommended that a professional service be used to ensure proper maintenance.

Since grease traps/interceptors may have an unpleasant odor. It is recommended that you have them
cleaned prior to patrons visiting you establishment.

Use Allen screws for securing the lid of your trap/interceptor instead of the conventional
Phillips or slot screws. Phillips or slot screws may become stripped over time.

Keep an extra gasket on site for your grease trap/interceptor’s lid to prevent leaks and odors in
the event of a gasket failure.

Develop and keep a grease trap/interceptor cleaning procedure and maintenance log sheet
posted near the grease trap/interceptor to encourage employees to follow procedures and to
promote proper documentation after each cleaning.

Facilities experiencing high employee turnover or other factors making regular
trap/interceptor maintenance difficult should consider using a professional service.

Keep cleaning documentation for a period of not less than five years.

What is a Lift Station?

What is a Lift Station?

Wastewater lift stations are facilities designed to move wastewater from lower to higher elevation, particularly where the elevation of the source is not sufficient for gravity flow and/or when the use of gravity conveyance will result in excessive excavation depths and high sewer construction costs.

Maintenance work

The pumps, electronic controls and electrical works are under constant physical stress, and the corrosive environment requires constant maintenance repair. There is, however, a point where they need to be rebuilt with wholesale equipment replacement. On average that is about every 15 to 25 years. For larger capacity pumps it is recommended to rebuild at least one pump a minimum of every two years. Performance of routine and preventative maintenance can save station's owner from costly repair bills.

We offer monthly maintenance for lift stations. If you would like to request a formal agreement, give us a call to our office 305.620.7005!

Storm Drains!!!!!!!

To be sure a parking lot drainage system functions properly, it should be cleaned and maintained on a regular basis. Professional, preventive drain and catch basin cleaning is the key to minimizing the risk of property damage and unnecessary expense. When parking lot drain cleaning is performed as a part of regular property maintenance, the amount of time required and the material disposal volume are both greatly reduced, which results in simpler, lower cost service.

Pump Outs Unlimited will maintain your Lift Station!

The best way to avoid problems is to consistently keep an eye on your lift station. Get to
know it and what to expect from it. Once this is done, you can spot troubles before they blow
out of proportion.

The most important thing to do to care for your lift station is to read and record the hour
meters every day, at the same time. A calendar or log book works great for this. Record both the
total hours and daily total by subtracting the previous day’s total from the current day’s hours. If
everything is working correctly, the pumps will have pumped the same number of hours each
day because they alternate. Get to know how many hours to expect because this will indicate
problems down the road if the numbers are off. Hour meters in all of Aqua Engineering systems
turn off when the pump turns off for any reason. Because of this, if there is a difference in the
hours between the pumps, the pump with the least hours is likely to be the problem pump.

Drains in South Florida

Storm drain systems need to be cleaned regularly. Routine cleaning reduces the amount of pollutants, trash, and debris both in the storm drain system and in receiving waters. Clogged drains and storm drain inlets can cause the drains to overflow, leading to increased erosion.

Some common pollutants found in storm drains include:
  • trash and debris
  • sediments
  • oil and grease
  • antifreeze
  • paints
  • cleaners and solvents
  • pesticides
  • fertilizers

Grease traps are very important

While cleaning grease traps is a very unpleasant job, it is crucial to maintain them properly to prevent major problems from happening in your restaurant. Furthermore, everything removed from the traps must be appropriately disposed of in an ecologically friendly way. This is why it is necessary to hire a reputable company that will properly dispose of the trap waste at a licensed facility where the grease will be recycled into something useful.

Routine cleaning is essential for preventing grease build up in order for a grease trap to work efficiently and for a healthy environment. There are numerous possible hazards that can develop if kitchen restaurant equipment is not properly cared for. Grease trap interceptors are boxes that are specifically designed to be added onto drains in commercial business. They trap grease to keep it from draining into public waste systems or septic tanks, where it can clog the lines and cause all kinds of destruction in the sewer system.

Lift stations need love too...

  1. Wet wells pumped out and pressure washed at least twice a year, or more often if necessary, to prevent solids and grease build-up. Build-up of solids can create odors and damage the pumps.
  2. Pull and inspect submersible pumps taking close note of the condition of the impeller and suction port. Worn impellers create more runtime on the pumps, consuming more energy than necessary and causing premature failure of the pump motor.
  3. Inspection of check valves to prevent back flow from the force main to the wet well.
  4. Clean and inspect floats to insure proper performance. The buildup of grease prevents floats from working properly.
  5. Inspect and exercise the electrical control panel, including the light and alarm systems. Thermography will be used to determine if motor starters and circuit breakers are performing properly and to identify poor connections.
  6. Note and record hours from hour meters on each motor to provide an accurate record of how often each pump is cycling. Differences in run times greater than 10% may be an indication of a problem with one of the pumps.
  7. Amp and voltage readings will be taken on each pump motor and recorded. If the amp readings do not meet the manufacturer's specifications, it could be an indication that debris is lodged in the impeller, or that water has entered the motor housing. Early detection of either symptom can save the pump motor from catastrophic failure.
  8. Perform a Megohm test on the pump motors to determine the condition of the motor winding insulation. By utilizing regular Megohm testing, a base line reading can be established and used over time to determine if the windings are deteriorating, eliminating the chance of catastrophic failure and wet well downtime.
  9. Record and document all findings, present a written report to the owner after each maintenance period, and post the reports to the Internet on a secure server for safe keeping and instant access 24/7/365.

Pump Outs Unlimited will help you in this situation...Call us at 305.620.7005!

The first thing that needs to be done before the actual cleaning begins is to set up the vacuum system by attaching the vacuum pipe to the truck’s intake hose. It is then placed in the storm drainage system. The water from the tanks will be used for jet-washing and flushing the drains all over. At the same time, the water is vacuuming up anything in the drain which helps clear the drain. After cleaning, the drain is labeled that it has been cleaned.

We love all types of drains! Call us at 305.620.7005!

Kitchen sink drains run slower and slower over time as greases, soaps, fats and detergents build up inside the pipes, eventually causing a clog. Our technicians will use a drain cleaning machine designed for sinks to break through the clog and get your drains flowing again.

Bathroom sink drains often become clogged with hair, toothpaste, soap and grime. Our technicians are experts at clearing all types of bathroom sink clogs and cleaning the pipe so your sinks will drain quickly.
Laundry drains often clog due to buildup of detergents, lint and other debris from the washing machine. A lint trap or strainer will reduce the amount of clog-causing debris that enters the sink or laundry line from the washing machine hose.
Floor drains are usually found in basements, laundry rooms and garages, as well as patios, driveways and some older bathrooms. Since these drains are typically not used very often, the water in the trap can evaporate, allowing odors to escape into the area. Pour a bucket of water into floor drains to fill the trap and prevent odors, and ensure that the drain flows freely to carry away water and prevent flooding. Floor drains can easily get clogged with dirt and other debris, but we can clean them quickly and professionally.
Downspout drains are designed to channel rain water away from your home’s foundation. Downspout drains are often connected to the city’s storm sewer system. These underground pipes can become clogged with leaves and debris, causing a downspout drain backup. We provide professional drain services to clean downspouts and underground pipes to restore proper drainage and keep flooding at bay.
Main sewer lines are the largest drains in your home and all other household drains feed into the main sewer line. Main sewer lines carry waste underground from the house to a city sewer line or a septic tank. The main sewer line can become clogged when debris from the household drains get trapped in the pipe. Tree roots can also penetrate broken or misaligned pipe joints, preventing waste from properly washing through the line. When the main sewer line clogs, toilets and drains throughout your house can backup, with no regard to time of day or night.
