WHAT ARE LIFT STATIONS?
Waste-water lift stations are facilities designed to move waste-water from lower to higher elevation, particularly where the elevation of the source is not sufficient for gravity flow and/or when the use of gravity conveyance will result in excessive excavation depths and high sewer construction costs.
Lift stations are used to reduce the capital cost of sewer system construction. When gravity sewers are installed in trenches deeper than three meters (10 feet), the cost of sewer line installation increases significantly because of the more complex and costly excavation equipment and trench shoring techniques required. The size of the gravity sewer lines is dependent on the minimum pipe slope and flow. Pumping waste-water can convey the same flow using smaller pipeline size at shallower depth, and thereby, reducing pipeline costs.

We will jet those clogged lines!
Clearing Clogged Sewer Lines
To clear a clogged sewer line, a nozzle with a forward jet(s) is used. Forward jet(s) only use a small proportion of the total GPM to bore through a blockage with a minimal loss of propulsion. The forward jet is design to bore into the blockage to allow the rear jets with more flow to remove the bulk or remainder of the blockage. Note that a forward jet(s) may have reduced flow per orifice compared to the rear nozzle orifices; the pressure (PSI) is always the same at all orifices.

Lift Stations!
Key elements of lift stations include a waste-water receiving well, often equipped with a screen or grinding to remove coarse materials; pumps and piping with associated valves; motors; a power supply system; an equipment control and alarm system; and an odor control system and ventilation system. Lift station equipment and systems are often installed in an enclosed structure. They can be constructed on-site (custom-designed) or prefabricated.
In standard septic systems, gravity is used to flow the sewage from the home to the septic tank, and then to the leach field. When the sewage needs to be pumped because the tank or leach field is at higher ground.septic pumps are also used to pump sewage into the city sewer, when the street sewer line is higher than the home sewage line. Septic Lift Stations fill with sewage to a certain level, then the pump turns on and the sewage is pumped on to the next stage.

If your tank hasn't been pumped in the last 5 years, you are seeing wet areas or standing water above your drainfield, your toilets are running slowly or there are odors in your home, you may need to have your septic system cleaned. Below are some things to think about that will influence the cost of your septic system cleaning.
Pumping
Under normal conditions, you should pump your tank every 1-3 years based upon the number of people living in your home. Generally, this pumping will take around 4-5 hours of manual labor and about 2 hours or so with a backhoe. If you know the location of your septic system, this could save you some money on the backend because your professional won't have to charge you the time to locate it.Size of tank
Obviously, smaller tanks cost less to clean, although you may need to do them more often. Larger tanks require more labor and possible machinery to dig up and pump the tank.Replacing common parts
You may need parts replaced, such as a filter, which could cost a few hundred dollars. However, this filter is necessary in maintaining the function and longevity of your drainfield.Soil fracturing
If your professional notices that your tank is failing, they can sometimes resurrected by properly pumping the tank, cleaning the drainfield lines, installing filters and a process known as fracturing the soil, which involves inserting a hollow tube into the ground and injecting a 300-pound blast of air. While this procedure could cost into the thousands dollars, it's much less expensive and much less hassle than installing a new system.Keeping it clean
You know that your septic tank will work only if the bacteria in it are healthy and hungry. If they get sick or die, your septic tank will start sending un-digested waste out to the drain field which will quickly plug it up. Below are some "weird" things that could kill your septic tank:
Chemotherapy Drugs
Anti-Bacterial Hand Washing Soap
Toilet Bowl Cleaners
Bath and Body Oils
Dishwashers
Water Softeners
Time-Release Pills and Capsules
Tip
Once your septic tank is uncovered - take photos of it and diagram it in relation to your home. This information can save you money and could prove valuable if your tank needs additional service in the future.
